31 for 31: I am bad at counting!

Here’s the “final” mix, number 31, because apparently I don’t know how to count. You may not see much of me for a while because the next 4 weeks I’ll be cramming for my last month of the semester, plus boy am I tired of taking pictures of myself! Done with that awkwardness for a while (possibly forever).

Buuuut I *was* able to achieve the tank layered-look on this extra outfit, which was a goal of mine for this remix from the very beginning, so that was exciting. I don’t know why, but I just love the idea of a tank acting as a vest.

Saturday night was date night, and the boyf was kind enough to humor me after my long day of Reiki class and take me out to Rudy’s, my favorite Mexican joint that’s two minutes from our house. I love Rudy’s… never disappoints. They have great margaritas, and even though I didn’t order my favorite signature dish (the spinach quesadilla), it was still amazing. I finished up the night watching The Fighter (they filmed a scene in my home town, Lexington! whoa!), and doing some reiki on the boyf, even though I had no clue what I was doing. All in all, good weekend.

I’ll definitely miss the 31 for 31 (ha)… It was definitely a challenge picking out my outfit today, and I almost ended up remixing another, making a 32 for 32. Thankfully, the sane side of my brain kicked in and was like wtf, self. I’m hoping I’ll have time at some point to display all of my items and do a tally for each item, but for now, that’s a wrap.

30 for 30: The Last Mix (Except Not)

Friday night when I changed into this combo after work, I thought that I still had one more remix left. I was wrong. This was it. As a result, when I discovered this fact on Saturday (while sitting in my 31st combo), it was quite anticlimactic. Not to mention that this was probably one of my less-imaginative outfits.

However, I was still delighted to find out the next day that I was done. And that I still had mixes in my back pocket. I had even planned for Sunday (today) and allllmost did another remix. To be honest, my outfit today *is* pretty close to being a remix outfit, which is kind of embarrassing. But I’m getting ahead of myself. I haven’t even posted Saturday’s bonus yet. Just a moment.

30 for 30: One more day!

Actually, at this point, I didn’t realize there was only one day left, which will make sense in a moment. But regardless, this mix probably looks familiar because I love this green cardigan and it was probably my most-worn item (aside from my jeggings). I’ll do the official tally later perhaps, but for now, it’s probably safe to say that people think I’m obsessed with this sweater. (And that would be true.)

Ummm and I have a confession to make. I broke a cardinal rule of the 30 for 30 and shopped before the challenge was over. That’s right–Friday I headed to the mall to buy my sister her birthday present (aaahhhh she’s 17!!) and happened to stumble into some clothes for myself in the dressing room. And then my debit card sprouted wings and flew itself to the register where it proceeded to buy the garments I had tried on. Can you believe that? It was actually pretty incredible.

But actually, I think I’m going to give myself a break because I technically wore outfits 29 and 30 that day–which would mean that at least the challenge was “over” that day. So that should be fair. Right??

But, I didn’t realize the challenge was over until I went through to tally up outfits on Day 31. Yep, I did one more remix than I needed to. Now that’s dedication. (Or stupidity.)

30 for 30: Twenty-eight and Feeling Great.

I got the greatest response to this outfit last week during one my my classes. My really sweet classmate, A, called my name across the room and goes, “Katie! I just wanted to tell you that you look absolutely adorable today. I mean, you look great every day, but today I really love your outfit.” My heart melted! I didn’t even know how to respond except to thank her profusely! What a sweetheart. And amazing that it happened with only three mixes to go — who knows if I would have come up with this combo otherwise??

In addition, I got a compliment on my oxfords that day as well! I got these shoes for my birthday last year (seriously, it was a birthday of the best gifts I can remember!), and was a little worried they were kind of snug, but by this point, they’re more stretched out and are a perfect shoe to wear for the impending spring weather. Tough to see here, but these shoes actually have little cutouts all over them so that they allow for a cool spring breeze to pass through.

30 for 30: Twenty-seven and J. Caramello

So this J. Crew tank was totally a planned late addition to the mix last Friday. I am still not 100% how many items I’ve used (I know it was 30 or less), and will have to catalogue them soon, but in the meantime, I was happy to wear this combo to school and feel like it was a non-going-out appropriate outfit (even though it was more of a going-out type of shirt). Plus, the color combination reminds me of a Caramello bar… chocolate on the outside, soft caramel on the inside… mmm. Thanks to the lil sis for knowing exactly what my style is!

It’s tough to see from this distance, but I love the asymmetric line and the jeweled gathering on the left sleeve. Downside? Hand-wash only and it’s already stretching out. I really hate slash love J. Crew. Le sigh.

It’s Sunday, which means it’s catch-up day. I really liked the outfits this week, too, and maintain that the later I get in the challenge, the more I learn to be creative. Not that this outfit was particularly inventive… but I’ve really learned to embrace the high-belt. My guy friend from school even commented on it that day, saying something about how I’m the “belt-girl” or something to that effect. I decided to take it as a compliment. :)

This necklace was on sale at The Limited over Christmas and so I actually bought it for myself while shopping for my mom and sister. The full-priced gray-toned version was also available, and what I ended up getting my J. Crew-obsessed lil sis (it totally fits the profile), and funnily enough, later on, my dad and I went shopping for my mom and ended up getting my mom this very same necklace (we also found the matching bracelet). It’s kind of nice to think that we all might be connected through it.

Okay peoples, I am so excited to only have 5 days left of the challenge. I don’t know what’s coming next, but I’m sure it’ll be terribly boring. But until then….

Just kidding! This one’s pretty super-boring. But that’s okay! Not every mix is a winner. I was still happy with it. I tried to maintain a positive attitude today despite the horrible wintery weather, which of course was back today. It snowed all day, and then rained this evening. Thankfully it was way too warm for anything to stick. Here’s to hoping this is the end of it!

The biggest event of Sunday was walking down to Dunks with the boyf and getting not one, but TWO donuts. Well, actually, I got a glazed stick and a giant coffee cake muffin. R got a Celtics donut and a reverse Boston creme. Mmmmm.

Basically, another good weekend outfit… perfect for eating donuts. And I broke out a necklace I haven’t worn in ages to mix in. Yes, this is exactly what the 30 for 30 is all about–re-appreciating previous buys.

For some reason, I looked like I’d been hit with a truck on Sunday, but oh well. Also thought I should reincorporate the RT factor. He adds a nice backdrop, I think. So cheery, most of all.

Saturday was pretty low-key, and this outfit totally matched my low-key mood. Sadly, my necklace broke at the end of the day (the leather wore through), but considering it was a Target buy from a couple years ago, I guess I can’t be too upset. Maybe one of these days I’ll fix it. Orrr it’ll just stay on my dresser, where most of my other broken jewelry loiters.

R was hanging around while I was taking pictures (actually he has a lot lately, which makes me feel so awkward, but it makes me get it over super-quick), and so today I decided to pull him in. He loved it.

I even made him jump into another one, to make a normal-er face. He may not be the the most fashion-forward guy, but he is still my favorite.

That night we went out with friends to Cambridge Brewing Company and got a Beer Tower of their spring IPA. Amazing, right?

That’s 100 oz of beer. R reminded me he drank more than that alone the night before at Patriot Place. (Apparently he had about 120 oz? We calculated I had about 80.) Wow, considering two of these 16 oz-ers got me buzzed, I was a little surprised.

Um, btw, this is probably one of my favorite scarves ever… whenever MJ wears it, I can’t help but compliment her and lust after it. Such beautiful colors! And if I recall correctly, I think she got it from Old Navy…

Friday was another beautiful day, and luckily I got to spend some time outside in the morning before heading to the acupuncture office for work. Ever since the weather turned, I had been looking forward to wearing yellow again. Yellow turned into my favorite color last year. Not sure how it happened, but it just did. It’s so cheery, I just can’t help but feel happy when I wear it.

Also, I was happy to again wear the BR blazer… It may be an obsession. These earrings were one of my favorite birthday presents last year from my friend C. She met me at an art fair down in Davis, and we wandered around and into an antique thrift store, where we ran across these vintage yellow earrings. C could see that I loved them, and so as my birthday present, she got them for me! What a sweetie… I’m so lucky to have such great friends. :)

Speaking of great friends, Friday night, R and I went out to a surprise party for a friend of ours down at Patriot Place. It was her 30th and her husband (R’s childhood friend) rented out the back room of Bar Louie and had an open bar for the first hour and a half… not to mention the amazing apps they’d chosen for a buffet. Of course I missed a huge detail on the invite, which was to wear green to continue the St. Patrick’s Day celebration. It was definitely surreal walking into the party and realizing that something was a little off; I felt like I was in a real-life “which one of these doesn’t look like the other.” Luckily my friend N had my back and lent me her giant shamrock necklace (unfortunately not pictured below).

While I was psyched to have an opportunity to wear another BR blazer given the warm evening weather, I actually preferred the look without it. Anyhow, at least my outfit matched the non-green-spiked beer… They were serving 20 oz beers, and I think I had almost 4 of them: 1 Smithwicks, 2 Irish Black & Tans (Smithwicks & Guinness) and 1 plain Guinness. Not sure how it was possible, but I wasn’t even hungover the next day… nor was I very drunk the night before. Very confusing, considering lately even a single beer has boarded me onto the buzz train. But, no complaints here — these days I prefer to just enjoy the taste of beer rather than get drunk. (Apparently this is a sign of adulthood.)
